BDF will start off with a variety of free dance classes for all ages & levels taught by local dance instructors: Aerial Fabric – Amanda Stanley, Ballet – Deborah Choszczyk, Contemporary – Skylar Taavola, Jazz – Kimber Shcumann, Musical Theater – Jill Grundstrom, Tap – Cassie Freeborn. There will also be master dance classes taught by special guest artists Contemporary, Improvisation, & Musical Theater with Shelli Manzoline & Miranda Shaughnessy of Acting In Motion , as well as Modern & Bharantanatyam (Classical South Indian Dance) with Jessica Fiala of Ragamala Dance. The festival will wrap up with a Dance Showcase/Competition featuring professional dancers, workshop participants, & dance competitors. Dancers participating in the Master Classes & Competition must pay a registration fee. Tickets & Registration forms are available at the Second Skin Shop.
Special guest artists include Shelli Manzoline & Miranda Shaughnessy of Acting In Motion. Together they will be teaching master classes in Contemporary, Improvisation, & Musical Theater. Ms. Manzoline is a UP native with a degree in Theater & Philosophy from NMU. She is the founder & performance trainer for AIM, & is also the Artistic Director/Youth Company Director & Writer for the Minnesota Dance Collaborative. Ms. Shaughnessy just finished performing in the World Premier of Corduroy at the Children’s Theatre of Minnesota. She also danced in Karma, a music video with singer Grayson DeWolfe, and was featured in Ash, a film about a dancer who is injured in an accident and must retain to make a comeback. Ms. Shaughnessy will also be performing in the Showcase.
Jessica Fiala is a Marquette native and company member of Ramgala Dance. She will be performing & teaching master classes in Modern & Bharantanatyam (Classical South Indian Dance). Ms. Fiala has toured with Ragamala throughout the U.S., India, U.K. and UAE. Performance highlights include the Lincoln Center, Kenney Center, Jacob’s Pillow, American Dance Festival, & many more. She is very excited to be a part of Blueberry Dance Festival & to share her love of dance with the community.
The Dance Showcase/Competition will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 26th at Kaufman Auditorium, featuring Jessica Fiala, Miranda Shaughnessy, local professional dancers, workshop participants, & dance competitors. Dancers interested in the competition must pre-register by Monday, July 23rd. Tickets for the Showcase/Competition are $10 cash or check made to Kaufman Auditorium.
